Several injectable fillers are available to restore fullness to the face and lips and to treat wrinkles, folds and scars. They are a safe way to renew youthfulness and vitality.  Anti aging dermatology may incorporate these cosmetic fillers that vary in form and function, some lasting longer than others.

Short to Moderate-lasting injectable fillers:

These consist mainly of the hyaluronic acid fillers of which there are many.  Some examples include the Restylane products, the Juvederm products, and Belotero.  Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring support substance within the skin and lips that breaks down with long-term sun exposure and the normal aging process leading to decreased volume in the face and the formation of wrinkles and skin folds.  Replacing volume deep within the support structures of the skin with hyaluronic acid fillers is a good way to lift sagging skin and to fill wrinkles and skin folds, as well as to add volume to the lips.  Results are immediate.  These products last anywhere from three months to a year.

Longer-lasting injectable fillers & Volume Enhancers:

Primarily, these refer to the filler and volume enhancer Radiesse and the volume enhancer Sculptra.

Radiesse® — Radiesse® is a safe and longer-lasting cosmetic filler that smooths folds and creases and restores facial fullness. It is especially effective at enhancing the folds between the nose and mouth, at the corners of the mouth and at restoring the contours of the cheeks. Results are partially immediate and partially delayed.  Within Radiesse is a substance that promotes collagen growth so the immediate results are replaced with long-lasting collagen production.  Radiesse can help accentuate cheek bones and reshape the chin and jawline.  Radiesse® lasts for one to two years.

Sculptra™ — Sculptra is a volume enhancer. It beautifully restores a youthful fullness to any area of indentation, depression, wrinkle or fold. Even the temples may be enhanced. Additionally, cheekbones can be accentuated, chins augmented, and the shape of the jawline can be changed. Sculptra is injected in monthly intervals, three to five times. Gradually the body’s own collagen replaces the Sculptra at the site of injection. Results are not immediate; however, they begin to develop quickly, usually after the second treatment and last for over two years.
