Munich researchers report that psoriasis may signal the onset of Type 2 diabetes. It seems that the more advanced the psoriasis, the higher the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
The increase of Type 2 diabetes rises 49% with psoriasis. Psoriasis is a common inflammatory disease that affects about 125 million people across the world. Psoriasis patients also experience higher incidents of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death.
Screening psoriasis patients for these risks proves beneficial to their preventive care, as does treating the actual psoriasis. They should also be taking care to keep their weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol under control.
