Botox is renowned as a non-invasive anti-aging treatment that allows you to resume normal activities the day you receive injections. However, there’s still a few aftercare tips to keep in mind to ensure the best possible results. Review what your Beverly Hills Botox experts want you to know about the right aftercare:
Avoid exercising for 12 to 24 hours (at least) following your Botox injections. Exercise along with hanging upside down brings more blood to the face and can “wash” the toxin from treated areas. Sweating from exercise is another issue, as it increases blood pressure and heart rate. This intensifies chances of injection-site bruising.
Do Not Rub Affected Areas
Be sure you do not rub or otherwise irritate injection sites, as it may cause Botox to seep into your eyelids. This can result in eyelid “droopiness.” Refrain from touching all affected areas and wash your face very gently. You’ll be able to touch your face as needed the morning after your Botox session.
Skip Blood-Thinning Medication
Stop taking any blood-thinning medication both before and after you receive Botox. This is another key in minimizing injection site bruising. Examples of blood thinners include Aspirin, Exedrin, Ginseng, St. John’s Wart, Ibuprofen, and Ginko Bilboa.
Avoid Facials, Chemical Peels, Etc.
Do not schedule a facial, chemical peel, or microdermabrasion session after receiving Botox, as the manipulation involved can cause the aforementioned “washing out” issue. Wait at least 24 hours before undergoing any of these treatments.
Apply Ice Packs
Apply cool compresses to any swollen or bruised areas to alleviate pain and quicken healing time. If you do bruise following your Botox session, apply topical vitamin K and arnica to affected areas. Both work very well as bruise treatments.
Perform Facial Exercises
Perform assorted facial exercises to help the toxin go deeper into the muscles. For example, if you received Botox around your mouth, smile for about five seconds, then release the muscles. Puckering your lips, frowning, and raising your eyebrows might also be required depending on where you received injections. Do these exercises for about an hour after your Botox session.
